Downtown Crosswalks to Close for Samford Park Redevelopment

March 28, 2014

Two downtown crosswalks and sidewalks will close as Auburn University begins Phase I of the redevelopment of Samford Park at Toomer's Corner.

Auburn University will install fencing around the perimeter of the work site, which will require the closure of downtown crosswalks as follows:

The crosswalk on West Magnolia Avenue connecting Compass Bank with the Auburn University campus will be closed.

The crosswalk on South College Street connecting The Bank Vault with the Auburn University campus will be closed.

Sidewalks included in the work site along South College Street and West Magnolia Avenue will also be closed for the duration of the project. Auburn University expects this phase of construction to be complete before the start of the fall 2014 semester.

Pedestrians should use the mid-block crosswalks on West Magnolia Avenue and South College Street for access between downtown and the University campus. Construction work will also require occassional lane closures in the right-hand, southbound lane of South College Street.
