Double Traffic Fatality in Auburn

March 26, 2014

A three vehicle accident this morning in Auburn about 7:58 AM has left two dead and a third in serious condition. Rodney Harcum Sr., 53, and Joel Christopher Finney,27, both from Notasulga, were killed instantly when they had a head on collision with a vehicle driven by Latasha Hall, 26, of Tuskegee. A fourth victim was uninjured. Harcum and Finney were pronounced dead at the scene at 8:05 AM. Both died from multiple blunt force impact injuries. Hall had to be extricated from her vehicle and was airlifted by Lifesaver helicopter to UAB hospital in Birmingham. It appears that Hall’s 2003 Honda CRV was traveling west on Shug Jordan Parkway in the 300 block when she came in contact with a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a Phenix City man going in the same direction. Then Hall’s vehicle struck Finney’s 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, which was traveling east on Shug Jordan Parkway, head on. It took Auburn Fire and EAMC EMS over 20 minutes to free Ms. Hall from her vehicle before she could be flown to UAB. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Auburn Police and the Lee County Coroner. Shug Jordan Parkway between Wire Road and South College was closed to traffic for several hours due to the accident.
