Death Investigation

January 24, 2014

On Thursday, January 23, 2014 at approximately 5:09 p.m. the Auburn Police Division responded to the North Park Public Parking Deck, located at 712 W. Magnolia Avenue in reference to a call of an individual jumping from the upper parking level. When officers arrived on the scene they located an unresponsive adult male victim with apparent injuries lying on the pavement near the entrance to the parking garage.  A preliminary investigation by officers determined that the victim had fallen from the top level of the parking deck and sustained critical injuries. The victim, identified as Barrett McCoy Townsend age 22 of Auburn, was immediately transported by ambulance to the EAMC Emergency room.  Townsend was unable to recover from his injuries and was later pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner.

There is no indication of foul play, however; the Auburn Police Division is conducting a full investigation into Townsend’s death.  The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Montgomery for an autopsy.  The Auburn Police Division is being assisted in the investigation by the Alabama Department of Forensic, the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
