On Thursday, January 23, 2014 at
approximately 5:09 p.m. the Auburn Police Division responded to the North Park
Public Parking Deck, located at 712 W. Magnolia Avenue in reference to a call
of an individual jumping from the upper parking level. When officers arrived on
the scene they located an unresponsive adult male victim with apparent injuries
lying on the pavement near the entrance to the parking garage. A preliminary investigation by officers
determined that the victim had fallen from the top level of the parking deck
and sustained critical injuries. The victim, identified as Barrett McCoy
Townsend age 22 of Auburn,
was immediately transported by ambulance to the EAMC Emergency room. Townsend was unable to recover from his
injuries and was later pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner.
There is no indication of foul
play, however; the Auburn Police Division is conducting a full investigation
into Townsend’s death. The body was
transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Montgomery for an
autopsy. The Auburn Police Division is
being assisted in the investigation by the Alabama Department of Forensic, the
State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
