Auburn Shooting Arrest

On Sunday, October 6, 2013 the Auburn Police Division
arrested Dezdrian Smith age 24 of Atlanta, Ga. and Kentarious J. Barnett age 21
from Opelika, Alabama. Barnett was
arrested on felony warrants for Burglary Third Degree, Theft of Property Second
Degree and Fleeing and Attempting to Elude.
Smith was arrested on felony warrants for Burglary Third Degree and
Theft of Property Second Degree. The arrests stems from the investigation of a
police report dated the same day in which a resident in the 800 Block of
Annalue Drive reported that he returned home at approximately 8:50 p.m. to
discover two individuals inside his residence.
The resident fired several shots at the intruders who then fled on foot. After a search of the area by Police, Smith
and Barnett were apprehended a short
time later still in the vacinity of where the crime occurred. Dezdrian Smith suffered a non- life
threatening gunshot wound, was taken to EAMC Emergency Room, treated for his
injuries, and later released into police custody. The victim reported two Samsung cell phones
valued at $600.00 were taken in the burglary.
Smith and Barnett were transferred to the Lee County Jail, where they
are awaiting bond. Smith's bond was set
at $6,000 and Barnett's bond is $9,000.
