Update on Auburn Burglary Arrests

July 22, 2013

On Friday, July 19, 2013 the Auburn Police Division arrested two more people in connection with a string of residential burglaries that have occurred over the past few months.  Linda Townsend, age 28, of Montgomery, Alabama, is charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, two counts of Theft of Property 1st Degree, two counts of Theft of Property 2nd Degree, and two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.  Damion D. Payne, age 39, of Montgomery, is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Theft of Property 3rd Degree.  The pair was taken into custody in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.  They are currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center.  Linda Townsend’s bond is set at $28,000 and Payne’s at $4,000.

Auburn detectives have worked closely with the Montgomery Police Department over the past several weeks in an effort to identify the suspects involved in the break ins. Several other suspects connected to the burglaries have been identified and Auburn and Montgomery police are working to locate them.  Detectives believe the group is responsible for other residential burglaries that have been occurring in Auburn over the past few months including areas such as Moore’s Mill and Grove Hill.  Some of the stolen property has been recovered.

The investigation is on-going and additional arrests and charges are expected.
