Paul Register Named Auburn Police Chief

June 7, 2013

City Manager Charles M. Duggan, Jr. announced today the appointment of Paul Register as Chief of Police, effective July 1, 2013. Chief Register has served as Acting Chief of Police since Chief Tommy Dawson began a medical leave in March. Dawson recently announced his retirement, also effective July 1.

“We’re fortunate to have someone with Chief Register’s experience and ability to lead our Police Division in the future. Paul’s leadership is an important reason that we have an excellent police force in Auburn,” said City Manager Charles M. Duggan, Jr.

“Chief Register has provided an excellent example of Auburn law enforcement and has done an outstanding job as Assistant Police Chief and Acting Police Chief,” said Bill James, Director of Public Safety.

Chief Register has been with the Auburn Police Division for 25 years, and has served in leadership positions in the patrol, detectives and vice and narcotics sections before being promoted to Assistant Chief of Police in 2010. Register holds a Bachelor of Science in Justice and Public Safety from Auburn University at Montgomery, is a 2012 graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Homeland Security/Emergency Management.

“I’ve enjoyed working for the City of Auburn for 25 years and I’m thankful for this opportunity to serve as Police Chief,” said Chief Register of the appointment.
