Opelika Looking for a new OPS Director

April 22, 2013

Eight months after coming on board with the City of Opelika as the Director of Opelika Power Services, Steve Harmon has announced that he is leaving to accept the position as the President/CEO of “Community Electric Cooperative” (CEC) in Windsor, Virginia.  His last day with the City of Opelika will be Friday, May 24, 2013.

At his announcement Mr. Harmon stated, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my brief time serving as Director of OPS.  I have developed many friendships over the past eight months, and will forever be grateful to Mayor Fuller, The Opelika City Council, and the OPS employees for their dedication and support.  I am confident in the future success of OPS, particularly the FTTH project that will elevate the quality of life in Opelika, and prepare the way for enormous economic development opportunities".

Of his departure, Mayor Gary Fuller stated, “I’ve enjoyed working with Steven the past eight months and sure hate to lose him.  He has played an important role in the construction of our fiber project as well as the building of our new Opelika Power Services facilities on Fox Run Parkway.  I wish him the very best.  We’ve already begun our search for a new OPS Director.”  Fuller went on to say, “This is a most exciting time in the life of our community.  Opelika is about to become the first city in Alabama to have fiber to the user.  Very soon we’ll fully deploy smart grid along with telecommunications that include video (cable TV), ultra-high speed internet and telephone service.  The future is bright for Opelika.”  The system is being tested now and the city expects to launch the service to Opelika residents within the next several weeks.

Steven Harmon came to the City of Opelika from Greenville, Alabama where he served as the CEO of H2 Business Solutions, LLC.  Prior to that, he served as the Executive VP and General Manager of Pioneer Electric Cooperative in Greenville, Alabama.
