Burglary and Accident Rates Decline in Auburn

February 15, 2013

Building burglaries, auto burglaries, and auto accidents are on a downward trend in the City of Auburn. The City’s Public Safety Department has recently completed an analysis of statistics pertaining to building burglaries, auto accidents, and arrests over a 5-year period. The stats show a decrease in burglaries and auto accidents since 2008 with an increase in arrests during the same time period.

Perhaps the most notable finding in the analysis is that building burglaries declined by 58% from 2008 to 2012 and auto burglaries have declined by 42% during the same time period. “We are thankful for the reduction in burglaries. It represents the hard work and dedication of our officers as well as the cooperation of our citizens,” said Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson.

The Auburn Police Division attributes the trends to dedicated patrol units who are actively pursuing criminal offenders. The result has been an increase in arrests by 18% from 2008 to 2012. “The increase in arrests will hopefully serve to remind criminals that our officers work hard to combat crime here in Auburn,” said Chief Dawson.
