Auburn Breaking & Entering Arrests

On Saturday, July 28, the Auburn Police Division arrested Dwayne A. Barnes, age 27, of Opelika, and Jamie L. Knox, age 21, of Waverly, on various charges stemming from multiple automobile burglaries that occurred earlier this same date. Barnes and Knox were taken into custody after officers responded to the area of Winterhawk Drive and Osceola Court in reference to suspicious persons in that area. Further investigation revealed that the two were breaking into vehicles. Personal property stolen during the burglaries was located inside a 2007 Chevrolet Impala the pair was occupying.
Barnes is charged with five counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, one count of Theft of Property 1st Degree, four counts of Theft of Property 3rd Degree, Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Knox is charged with five counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, one count of Theft of Property 1st Degree, and four counts of Theft of Property 3rd Degree.
The two were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where the bond on Barnes was set at $23,500 and Knox at $20,000. The case remains under investigation and additional charges are possible as other victims are identified.
