Rep. Mike Hubbard Presents Grants to Auburn Police and Fire Divisions

July 17, 2010

Alabama State Representative Mike Hubbard has secured approximately $10,000 for the Auburn Police Division, which will be used to purchase new rain suits for all 65 officers on patrol.  The two-piece suits are reversible, more visible, and offer much more protection against the elements than do the current rain suits.  "During this time of tight budgets we are very grateful to receive these funds and want to thank Representative Hubbard for his support of our agency, and law enforcement in general," said Tommy Dawson, Auburn Police Chief.

Representative Hubbard has also secured approximately $7800 for the Auburn Fire Division, which will be used to purchase a MSA 5600 thermal imaging camera.  The device helps firefighters locate people who may be trapped in a burning building.  “In a smoky environment where you have zero visibility and you’ve got a lot of different heat signatures, the camera can differentiate those signatures and identify where a person is located,” said Lee Lamar, Fire Chief.  The Department currently has three thermal imaging cameras and plans to eventually equip each of its eight fire trucks with the devices.
